Francesco Guido (CEO/CTO)

PhD at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), working on the design and the fabrication of piezoelectric MEMS for energy harvesting based on Aluminum Nitride (AlN) both on Silicon (Si) and flexible polymeric substrates. In this framework, he acquired a great experience in thin films deposition and micro fabrication processing. In particular, for the development of sputtering deposition of thin films on flexible materials; he gained also great experience on UV photolithography techniques, CVD, plasma etching, and materials characterization by AFM, SEM and X-Ray Diffraction, electrical and mechanical characterization of the structures. He exploited the knowledge on AlN-devices fabrication to design and develop piezoelectric soft MEMS for energy harvesting by low speed wind. As Post-Doc he has been involved in a Project with Enel Green Power and IIT about the design and the realization of an innovative piezoelectric device to scavenge electrical energy in underwater environment, by currents and waves motion. The two-year project includes the fabrication of the devices, the characterization about ageing and reliability both in laboratory and in a real underwater workstation. As CEO of Piezoskin, he is also involved in the design and fabrication processes of the devices developed for the start-up. In particular, innovative highly performing sensors based on flexible materials are developing for health and fitness applications.

Antonio Sansò (Marketing and Sales)

He is a co-founder of Piezoskin and he is the business developer of Piezoskin product, dealing with financials and marketing&sales activities. Antonio has an MBA, a Post-Graduate Master in General Management and a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. He has 8+ years of experience and a diverse background in Consulting, Financial Services, Media and Telco industries, working in Technology, Marketing and Sales departments. He works in Vodafone Italia, Managing the sales of Vodafone TV in south Italy, Managed the retail channel (15+ Dealers, 45+ Store Managers and Specialists) in southern Puglia, obtaining great yearly growth on sales. He also defined effective marketing mix and go-to-market strategies for consumer mobile products; enhanced products and services with new functionalities while simplifying the customer experience and performing strong commercial push using most of the company’s distribution and communication channels. He also has a great experience in project managing, working for SINSYS S.A. (SIASSB group) - Banking and Financial services, Milan, Italy. He successfully managed 9 international projects in payment systems and financial services area for some of the biggest European banks and networks, managing an average Client’s investment of €1.5mln on each project. Worked in Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and UK. He advised on business opportunities and make-or-buy decisions, evaluating company technological investments and producing sound business cases and he closed every project perfectly on time or behind schedule and achieved a final average saving of about 10% of the assigned budget

Luciana Algieri (Chemist and Technician)

She received the PhD in Material and Structures Engineering and Nanotechnology, at Department of Innovation Engineering, University of Salento, Lecce (Italy), presenting the thesis: “Development of MEMS technologies for AlN-based Energy Harvesters”. During the PhD period and the following Fellowship at the Center for Bio-molecular Nanotechnologies, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, she he acquired a great experience in thin films deposition and micro fabrication processing. In particular, she developed the standard procedures for ultra-thin polymeric substrates, exploited in the fabrication of flexible sensors. The development of sputtering deposition of thin films on flexible materials.

External People – Collaborators

Massimo De Vittorio (External Advisor)

He is CBN-IIT coordinator, will act as external advisor. He is also responsible of the nanofabrication and MEMS front-end and back-end facilities and activities at CBN. His research activity deals with the development of science and technology applied to nanophotonics, nanoelectronics and nano and micro electromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS) for applications such as ICT, life-science, energy and robotics.


Vincenzo Mastronardi (Fabrication and Process Collaborator)

As PhD student at CBN-IIT, he deal with the design, FEM modeling and microfabrication of circular piezoelectric MEMS membranes for ultrasound applications based on Aluminum Nitride (AlN); he completed preliminary analysis and study of the flexural resonances of the membranes and displacement detection by laser Doppler Vibrometer. He also worked on designing and fabrication of bio-inspired piezoelectric MEMS pressure sensors for tactile applications. He has a great experience about prototyping and electromechanical characterization of piezoelectric devices


Lara Natta (Fabrication and Process Collaborator)

She is a PhD student at CBN-IIT working on the development of wearable piezoelectric devices based on AlN for the monitoring of physiological parameters, with the capability to communicate with external platform for the data transfer ad to self-powering. She is working on specific characteristics like an ultrathin layout, optimized geometrical design to reach the best stretching conditions, and skin like mechanical properties. She has great experience about biomaterials and tissue engineering, due to the collaboration with the Biomaterial laboratory of the Università del Salento, in 2015. He gained experience on the fabrication and characterization of electrospinned membrane for bone tissue engineering and on preliminary study on the development of an innovative composite material based on poly-lactic acid and hydroxyapatite.
